Design: Doodle 4 Google

Google is hosting a competition called Doodle 4 Google in partnership with the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. They invited K-12 students to re-design the Google homepage logo around the theme "What I Wish for the World." Vote for the National Finalists here.

  1. I voted for the happy faces/flags. I was excited about this contest last year, thought it would be a cool thing for the art classes to do but you can only submit 6 entries per school and we really didn't have time for a school-wide or grade wide contest to select 6 to submit. If it was open to all to submit online, I definately would have done more promotion and helped the studyhall students with design software.

  2. I have never seen this contest, but was very impressed with the creativity of the kids, especially the younger ones.
I wish our school new about this contest, but I have told one of our art teachers to get on our blog, as she has already read the book and loved it!

  4. I voted for two - the lovely owl (I am a Chi Omega, and the owl is our symbol) and the musical staff. Incredible detail and careful, precise symbology in both. Please, pass this on to students - it's inspiring!

  5. This book should be read by all the educators in our district. Artists and muscians have known that the arts are indispensable to education. The CHAD high school in Philadelphia is an excellent example of the importance of visual art. We need to inspire our students to be engaged in the "activity of creating solutions" which is design.

  6. Students at EDMS have entered the Google Contest in the past, and I am always thrilled to see the creativity they use in creating and finishing their designs. I cannot help but recall that what I really remember from my own middle school experience is things that I designed (clay pots or small clay animals, the famous ashtray for mom and Dad [even though no one in the family smoked], the sewing projects from Home Ec)and the stories I wrote as well as the feedback I received from teachers regarding them.
